Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good I use a compressor and clean my sander regularly. After reading reviews I learned before any problems about the buildup around the fan. So far I have not had any problems.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from can't get parts It worked fine until it broke the little fan. When I called to get a new one, I was told it was no longer available, that it was no longer made. They still sell the machine. I now have a $200.00 machine that I can't use because of a $3.00 part. DON'T BUY THIS SANDER!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 3x a charm, maybe I'm on my third one in less than a year, it's not even out of the box yet. We'll see if I can sand more than one or two boards before the motor locks & hums again! I really want to like this thing, and think I'd love it if it'd just work! Bonus- the guy at HD let me keep my old belt, spindles & tubes!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product but quality is not up to standard After using it for a few times the knob came loose on the sanding belt and it bent the frame. Now it has excessive vibration and the belt will not stay aligned. I still use it but with some frustration It could be a great product if it was better built when I get time I am going to try and straighten the parts. I will probably replace it with a more durable machine as I do a lot of woodwork. .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome machine I've had mine about five years. I use it on a regular basis. Only thing I have to replace is the 2 in spindle.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Find an alternative The first one I took out of the box just hummed when I turned it on, it would not spin. I took it back to home depot where they gladly exchanged it. I took the second one home and it worked for a total of 1 day. The only way to get the spindle to spin is to tip it on its back, this must free up something in the motor cause it will work until I turn it off again. 0-2 same problem. I like Ridgid and have other tools by them but I expect stuff to work. There are many similar reviews on line. Currently reviewing what to replace it with and will be returning it to home depot this weekend. Do not buy this tool

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love the product but they don't make spare parts even for products current for sale I love using the product. It is great for sanding and shaping small parts that fit on the table. Using it one day it stopped working and I discovered that saw dust collects below the belt, which you would not notice if you don't remove the whole belt assembly. Once it builds up the plastic fan breaks. It is easy to replace and the part used to be available for $4.00, but it is discountinued. IF YOU ARE DISCONTINUING THE PARTS DISCONTINUE THE THE WHOLE SANDER.

Motor failures

Several reviewers on the Home Depot web site spoke of motor failures ( burn up) with the Oscillating Edge Belt Sander. Is this an ongoing issue? Have the motor problems been corrected? What recourse will I have if I purchase the sander and have a similar issue with the motor? Another stated problem was the sanding belt would not stay in track. Is this a problem with the design of the tracking mechanism? Again, what recourse do I have if I have a similar problem? The reviews were filed since the beginning of 2013.
Asked by: Brian
I don't use mine in industrial type use or overload the motor...that could be an issue. My belts have always run true...there is a adjustment to center the tracking of the belt. I have another brand of table type belt sander and that requires you to make sure the belt is centered too. As a belt wears it may start moving off center so you need to recenter it...or replace. A higher quality belt makes a big difference too. I have had mine ever since they first came out and my motor is fine although not industrial type use. Mostly for sanding of hard wood parts from a powered scroll saw with occasional smoothing and removing flash from aluminum plate parts from my milling machine.

Oscillating spindle sander, is this tool up for discontinuation?

I am considering this for purchase.
Asked by: Witz
I was in Home Depot in Michigan today and saw it on display. This is a really useful tool although I wouldn't use it for heavy industrial use. Lots of versatility and clever design. Have had mine ever since it first came out...and no issues.

Discontinued or not?

I noticed in a reply by Ridgid 2 1/2 years ago that this sander was discontinued but in a more recent reply Ridgid 11 months ago you stated that this sander was not discontinued and should not appear that it was... So now which is it?
Asked by: TimBo266
