Rated 5 out of 5 by A great investment at an affordable price. Started on the first pull and every first pull after that. Powered my home's basics for 4 days straight during a power outage caused by the recent ice storm in SC. It ran flawlessly. My family was even able to have a hot bath every day. It's a great investment that I believe will pay off for many years to come. The only thing I would improve is the Gensmart monitoring system which is a great feature, but it doesn't monitor the load on the 240/25 amp twist lock connection. That would definitely be a plus when it comes to safety and takes the guess work out of overloading the unit…. ….If I was to do all over again, and if available, I would upgrade to the 6800 model. Overall the 5700 is an excellent unit at a great price. February 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by OUT OF THE BOX RAN FOR 48 HOURS TOOK MY UNIT OUT OF THE BOX, ADDED OIL & GAS, AND IT STARTED FIRST PULL. TOOK GENERATOR TO MY SON'S HOUSE WHICH WAS OUT OF POWER FOR TWO DAYS (ICE STORM IN SC). GOT BASIC POWER BACK TO THE HOUSE SAVING ALOT OF THE KIDS EXPENSIVE SALT WATER FISH AND OF COURSE FOOD. WE RAN THE UNIT FOR 48 STRAIGHT HOURS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS! GREAT FEELING TO HAVE LIGHTS AND POWER BACK AND NOT HAVING TO BUY A CHEAP GENERATOR! GENERATORS SHOULD COME WITH THE 30 AMP EXTENSION CORD BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT EASILY AVAILABLE. February 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Quality built tool This may be premature since i have only run it a half hour but i was so pleased with the initial startup and testing i had to share. This tool has a very sturdy frame and a nice finish as well as good hardware. The wheels have bearings and positioned perfectly for good balance making moving it a breeze, but pulling it works much better than pushing through the grass. Lean it up using a funnel and the oil goes right in no prob. I put in one whole quart and when i set it back down it appeared to be completely full but none ran out. I called it good enough. It started on one easy pull, i flipped the choke off and it ran smooth and uninterupted for 35 minutes. The Watt meter is awsome and was a big reason for selecting this unit. The ability to monitor volts and cycles and draw by cycling through the readout is a BIG plus. The volts didnt drop below 121 at 3100 watts load and the cyles were at 61. They were at 125 and 62.5 at no load. Knowing the Yamaha name and the Ridgid name this tool should be around for a while. November 22, 2013

Everything is working fine on my Ridgid 5700 except when I put a load on the 120v outlet I do not get a wattage reading. I get all the other readings. Is there something I can do?

Answer:
Unfortunately, there are no detailed written diagnostic, service, or repair instructions available to provide to the customer. If the generator is not working correctly, and the usage and troubleshooting tips in the operators manual do not aid in resolving the problem, the generator will need to be properly checked and serviced by a local authorized service provider. If you need a list of local service centers in your area please contact the Power Tool Division at 866-539-1710 or they can be found under service centers on our website www.ridgid.com.

What is the black colored dipstick on the opposite side from the oil fill? The oil dipstick is on the right hand side (if you're facing the pull starter) on the left hand side there is a black dip stick. What is this for?

Answer:
The Yamaha engine is used in other products, and has a second oil port for access when the engine is used in some of those products.
