Rated 5 out of 5 by from One fine piece of machinery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Five years ago I purchased generator and in those five years we had about 12 pohad outages due to terrible storms and down trees I personally had the proper outside plug 220 wire installed too my Breaker Box So when I take my generator out takes about five minutes to hook up in the rain and snow With 7 gallons of gas I’m averaging 10 to 12 hours most recently we had Nor eastern storm power was losed on t3/3/18 my Family and I where blessed or heater was on the we take hot showers I have a well for water it’s generated just keeps on running I figured it was time for me to write a review and be fair and honest years ago I thought I’d buy a whole house generator but that’s a big waste of money unnecessary for my needs but as I said we had a dozen power outages the longest was six days in summer AC / POOL ECT.... follow the direction change the oil after first hundred hours and there after. Yamaha motor electric start Phenomenal Model and you can take it anywhere if your a contractor P.S. spend the extra cash you won’t regret it this generator already payed for itself no need to go to hotel .....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good performance, but questionable durability Generator has worked great, but less then 2 years old and the alternator part of the generator is starting to rust. Even the shaft has a bunch of rust on it. Only a matter of time before it fails. Always been stored in a garage as well. Only 2 hours of run time just to test it every 6 months.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy this generator I have had the unit for over a year, and it has spent most of that time being repaired. The longest it has run is 5 minutes without shutting down. I have had the fuel lines, filter, carb, and electrical components replaced and nothing has solved the issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing Unit! I purchased the 6800/8500 Rigid approximately three years ago. I have had nothing but problems with starting this unit. The colder it is outside the more difficult to start. I have to use Starter fuel to get it going. I replaced the the fuel/ fuel line/ two filters and the gasoline (Shell). I have owned three other generators over the last twenty years. None come close to the frustration I get when attempting to start this unit. I run the unit dry when shutting down. Worst unit I have ever dealt with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Generator I got this generator to replace another brand (...and another brand). I have a couple of other Ridgid power tools, and their reliability led me to this purchase. We're off grid, and use the generator as backup power and battery charger during extended cloud and snow days. I also use it for heavier loads in the shop, such as welding, or when using the compressor for a nail gun while cutting with the table saw or chop saw. It works flawlessly. This unit starts reliably and delivers clean power whenever needed. When the start battery died, and it's a battery so eventually will, the Yamaha engine started quite easily by hand, considering the size of the motor... and I'm pushing 60. Even at zero degrees outside, it starts on the second pull. As with most medium sized portable generators, it's not very quiet. It's especially not as quiet as an inverter generator, but it's not as loud as my last one, which was smaller with less power. The "idle down" feature helps when using it for shop work, since it doesn't run at 3600 RPM when tools are off, and it's pretty quiet when idling. The "zero gravity" design helps in moving it around, but it's still a chore to pull it up a hill or slope. We live in the mountains, and it's heavy. Pulling is easier than pushing, if going up. As well as it works, it's weight is a minor inconvenience for the power it provides. I like the display, as it includes a reminder when to change motor oil. It flashes across the top of the screen when it's time for service. All in all, it's a great generator. Buying cheap tools will have one replacing them time and again. I know. It will be less expensive to just buy a good unit the first time, instead of buying multiple duplicate items. I highly recommend the Ridgid 6800/8500 watt generator. ...One last thing- someone complained in the "comments" section about how they had problems when their recoil start rope broke. He disassembled it more than necessary. If/when it happens, remove the recoil housing with the four 10mm bolts, then pull the rope from the spool. Don't remove the spool. Have approximately 5' of replacement 3/16" braided rope on hand with a knot on one end. Looking at the housing from the underside, turn the spool counter-clockwise to put tension on the spring, then around once more to where the holes for the rope on the housing and spool line up. It's easy to 'feel' the correct tension. Have a helper or wedge hold the spool from unwinding, and feed the new rope through both holes to the outside, then feed rope through pull handle and tie another knot to hold in place. Gently allow the spool to retract the rope under spring pressure. Again, DON'T take the spool off the housing, or the spring will be near impossible to wind. It works for most any pull start small engine, including this one... I just replaced it even though it's still under warranty. Anyhow, buy this generator... it's a great tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This generator is easy to start and is quiet when running. Bought this generator to replace a 35kw that could not support the load to satisfy all things I want operating during outages. I can run frig, freezer, satellite receiver, TVs and of course lights / outlets. One of the best features is the battery starter. I didn't want something I had to pull a cord to start. I was very surprised with the volume of this machine vs. the 35kw ..... it actually not as loud as the 35kw. Good buy, quality Ridig product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awsome Product This is just what I needed.I had to purchase it out of state, a two hour drive both ways. It was well worth the trip. It is extremely easy to use and powers the medical equip that I need, as well as other necessary items. When the emergency arose another well known, brand of generators did not cut it. However on that night after a 4 hour drive RIDGID came through for me. Is the any other tool ? NO . I also purchased a table saw after the generator. I had a top of the line table saw by another well known, company. I had strip it all down and repair it three times. I am not a carpenter just a home owner. The table saw is well worth the money. Now I check to see if RIDGID make a tool before I buy it. It is a waste of money to buy anything else. Capt. Sinbad USCG Ret

What is the 240V 30 Amp Twist Lock Outlet connection type?

Please confirm if the plug conforms to the L14-30 connection type?
Asked by: DonE
The outlet connection is an L14-30R. The plug needed to connect to it is an L14-30P. You can buy the plug separately or you can buy a 25" extension cable with the L14-30 connections at Home Depot.

Hooking up the generator

Recently purchased the 6800 generator and wanted to know the recommended order of hooking up to the house. I have a transfer switch. Should I start the generator then plug in the cord. I've never owned a generator and wanted to make sure I hook it up safely an correctly. Thanks in advance
Asked by: Jake42076
We recommend from our operators manual’s, that the generator is stated without any electrical load, (cords unplugged from the panel), once started, then the plug/load can be applied. When shutting down the generator, remove all load and shut generator off.
