We had an old Honda 2.2KW Gen from the late 1980's•˙s that was huge for the small output but lasted over 20 years! When It finally died I wanted to get something that didn't require me running extension cords all over the place and with higher output.
We don't have natural gas in the neighborhood and I didn’t want a large propane tank on the property so gasoline was really the only option. We bought the Ridgid unit from Home Depot knowing if it was a dud they would take it back. I had a small sub panel/transfer switch installed, which covers all major items
When Sandy hit we were one of the first houses to loose power when a tree took out the powers lines directly to the house. The whole neighborhood lost powers for about 8-9 days. Because our feed lines were down the power company clipped them from the mains. I was lucky enough to get an electrician to wire the house back up but he could not attach them to the mains, so when they restored power to the mains, any home that once had down lines were still not powered up. It took the power company almost a week to get to us for a less than a 30-minute job to hook us up.
So for 15 days the Ridgid ran just about non-stop! As long as I had gas the Ridged ran. We had the use of everything except some of the 240v stuff like dryer & oven.
It did not burn any oil during the 15 days
We have used it half a dozen times since Sandy and it has never failed. I do run it every 4-6 weeks with a load to make sure it runs if/when we will need it again.
I strongly recommend Ridgid Gen˙s!

Rated 1 out of 5 by westham Governor failure made engine seize
I used this generator approx. 7 times over 3-1/2 years. Stored indoors and ran under cover in car port when needed. Kept oil level correct. Last time I ran it a month ago, it started ok, but after perhaps 15 minutes, the engine speed went way up and the engine seized. Assume it was a governor failure, apparently a design weakness Ridgid knew about. I probably used this generator a total of 50 hours. Cost around $1000. Would not recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by I808191 Higher cost than average but very well engineered and Honda engine.
An expensive choice for occasional use but well-engineered, heavy duty frame, great Honda motor and does run 12 hours. at 50% load as claimed. Criticisms are:
1) Poor oil filler cap location (needs a funnel or hose to top-up);
2) Poor gas-cap location (perfectly positioned so any minor spillage when filling will drip gas directly onto hot exhaust);
3) 30A 4-pin locking outlet is pretty useless for most domestic customers "out-of-box" (would be a big improvement to ship it with an adapter 4pin locking to 3-pin RV, and I can't think it could add more than a couple of dollars to the production cost).;
4) Could use a slow-idle option under low-load. Runs fast and noisy even under very low draw..

Rated 5 out of 5 by christian the rolls royce of generators
extremely well built. excellent choice of engine and generator. just got the unit and I could tell right away this was the right choice. had owned 2 generators before this in the last 2 years. both were briggs and Stratton driven and both failed miserably within a very short life span. I don't think I will encounter that this time around. this generator provides back up 4 the house and handles all our needs without breaking a sweat. recommend this product to anyone
