OK. A little background on what I do. I am not just a DIY'er. I am a construction professional by trade and I do this for a living. It supports my family and I and is not just a hobby.
There's a lot to like about this Ridgid worm-drive saw. It handles just like any circular saw is supposed to. The bevel gauge is very easy to read and adjust and the cut depth mechanism is very smooth. I particularly liked that the lower guard never got snagged, not even when cutting a steep compound miter, or when shaving a sliver-sized piece off the end of a jack rafter.
This saw has a 2.5-horsepower motor. It would score a 2/5 (IMO) on raw power, with 3/5 being average, so it isn't a top performer, but it still does an OK job when cutting very hard/dense wood and pressure-treated lumber.
What I can say about it so far, that I don't like, is the design of the base plate. The bases on other saws are either thick and heavily ribbed or have rolled edges, but this saw's plate is thinner and only lightly contoured. I am afraid that it will bend more easily than, say, the Skilsaw saws or the Makita hypoid saw. On the plus side, though, it is cast aluminium, not stamped, so it has stood up to a couple of two-metre drops without bending.
All in all, a fine saw with some quirks that one just needs to get used to.

Have had to change cord out a couple of times, bearing slips and switch sticks sometimes.

Super cutting power and easy to handle. Saw went 3 months in the rain at a muddy job site and still handles well. Would recommend to contractors!

I recieved my carpenter journeyman card in October 1974. I have used many worm drive saws from Porter Cable, Skil and Makita and they were all pretty much interchangeable as far as dependability. However, this Rigid Saw has been a pain since I bought it. I own the MAG model and it was about $50 cheaper so I expected their would be a tradeoff but not the rattling, the lack of power, and now I have used the lock button to change the blade and I guess I missed the warning where it said "permanently lock." . Spend the money and buy a Skil or Makita and avoid the headaches when it is 100 degrees and you just want to finish..

I bought this saw to replace my skill worm drive that was only a year old that burned up. but what a difference in quality, comfort and performance the ridged is so much more I am glad I decided to buy it. only one draw back it does not come with a rip guide which I thought was strange but they can be ordered on line and they were less than 5 bucks that's a deal.. overall great product!!
