Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Design, Plastic Levers Strip Out The design is great. The saw is lightweight with plenty of power for smaller jobs. My only complaint is that the levers to lock the base plate are made of plastic and strip out if you're not careful. The levers have small teeth on the inside so you can reposition them, which is a nice design feature, but the material won't stand up to repeated use unless you are careful not to put too much pressure on the lever with your thumb. The levers should be made from steel. -chaz February 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by New Ridgid Fan! I have been a huge fan of the black and yellow for over 20 years, but after borrowing a friend's Ridgid saw for just one use, I was hooked and had to go out and buy my own combo kit (I got the saw free when I spent $279 on the hammer drill/impact combo kit.). Just the feel of it while in use got me hooked. It is powerful yet light weight, and the battery life kicks Dewalts tail. I never expect much from a cordless saw as I only used to use mine when I was too lazy to run to the truck, get a cord ran, blahh blahh, and then only when I needed to cut just a few boards or what have you as you could never expect much from the battery life- but this saw will do the job of a corded saw as I used it continuously for over 20 minutes cutting studs down to size. Amazing!! For the record, I do not write a lot of reviews, usually only when something really ticks me off, but I must say that when compared to all other brands, Ridgid really impressed me- not to mention the industry leading service guarantee. That in itself should sell a lot of folks as I usually buy a whole new tool as I feel cheated when my batteries die and cant see myself not spending the extra few bucks to get a tool plus the batteries; with Ridgid's service agreement, they will replace the batteries for free forever! Plus free parts and service- you cannot go wrong with Ridgid. These should be the last tools that you will ever have to buy. December 10, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent product Although I don't use it on a daily basis when I do use it I'm always impressed, battery life is great with the x4 batteries, it has plenty of power to tackle the small projects I take on. November 24, 2014

I'm right handed and I have another brand battery saw with the blade on the left side. I want to upgrade and I've tried a right side saw and can't stand looking over the tool to see the line since I'm cutting with my right hand. If there are plans to make a left side blade battery saw I will wait for RIDGID brand. If not I will be purchasing De-Walt since they already offer their 20v battery saw in left side blade.

I just purchased a set including the saw assuming that it, like its predecessors and most other trim saws, would have the better blade-left layout.

I should have looked I suppose, bad move on my part.

On the other hand, I'd like to know why the change was made?

And since you've previously stated that no blade-left design is coming, are there any older style blade right saws that could run from a compatible battery? I'm not above going to ebay to get a saw that's less cumbersome.

Thank you for your interest in RIDGID!

We have not flipped the blade side. Pretty much all RIDGID 18V cordless circular saws have the common standard circular saw design of the blade being mounted to the right of the motor, as in a right handed saw. The only exception was the R845 from 2005. It was considered to be a left handed circular saw with the blade mounted to the left of the motor. Discontinued around 2007-08. RIDGID currently does not offer any 18V model circular saws with the blade mounted to the left of the motor.

Thank you for your interest in RIDGID!

Yes, all RIDGID 18V platform tools and batteries are interchangeable. However, RIDGID 18V Lithium Ion batteries do require their correct charger.
