I have little room to cut my 3/4 black iron gas pipe so I am looking for a cutter that can cut this pipe so that I can move the regulator another 3 inches from the wall outside. Can this cut the pipe with no shavings going into the regulator and provide a way for me to extend the regulator away from the home?
Thank you in advance for your advice and response.
Our model 42A pipe cutter is used to cut steel pipe in tight locations. It is capable of cutting pipe in locations where a complete swing radius is not possible. The cutter only needs approximately 120 degrees of swing radius to make a cut.
This cutter completes a cut by displacing material as opposed to sawing through it. This means that the wheels as pressure is applied and they are rotated around the pipe, will “move the material out of their way and “displace” it to either side of the cutting track. This will however create a raised edge on the OD and ID of the pipe that will need to be removed prior to threading, you will need to consider if removing these burrs will create a problem or not in your application. Another point to be aware of with these types of cutters is that they are more difficult to maintain a straight cut with. While a traditional pipe cutter has rollers on it that help to align the cutter on the pipe, multi wheel cutters have their rollers removed and replaced with cutter wheels to allow for the reduced swing arch. This traditionally has not created a problem for others in the past, I just think it is good to have all the facts before making a decision.
