Rated 3 out of 5 by Gopherxx from Decent machine, A bit overpriced Doesn't have near the suction power of my old craftsman shop vac, but looking at the newer models nothing does. The blower feature is fairly handy The wet filter fit so tight that I had to make sure I got the right one. If you don't have two people, I wouldn't recommend this vacuum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CompuVet from Love the Bag For several years I have owned and used the 12 gallon Rigid Wet-Dry vacuum for clean up work around the house. Most of the time, I use it for vacuuming up saw and sanding dust from my basement workshop. I even use the vacuum out in the yard to collect up all the Sweet Gum Balls that fall out of the tress, the most annoying fruit from any tree. All in all, I have been very pleased with the 12 gallon detachable head vacuum. That was until, I found out that the new detachable head Rigid vacuum has a bag option. I learned this while helping my son-in-law pick out a vacuum for his home. I was so impressed with this feature that I went out and bought a second Rigid Wet-Dry vacuum. Rigid wet-dry vacuums are rugged, provide plenty of suction, and are extremely versatile. I have found so many uses such a vacuuming up water in a leaky basement, collecting dust from my workshop, blowing leaves off the driveway, and to collecting Gum Balls our of the yard. Many stores stock the extra attachments for the vacuum. My favorites are the floor brush and the narrow nozzle attachments. These are great for cleanup around a construction site. I also like and use the adapter for my orbital sander. Collecting dust while you work makes clean up much easier and limits the spread of dust through a client's house. The detachable head is a great feature. In addition to blowing off the driveways and deck on the house, I often use it to clean out the internal filter. These filters are a bit pricey so getting a long useful life out of them makes the vacuum more economical to operate. Whether you are doing construction or need one for home maintenance, I highly recommend the 16 gallon Rigid wet-dry vacuum with detachable head. It is worth the extra money to get the extra features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bobstreams from Awesome power! 16 gallon 6.5 HP this vacuum is awesome! My old craftsman wet/dry vacuum was lacking power from the time I unboxed it. I'm glad my washing machine overflowed cause I would have never got this vacuun and seen its versatility for everyday cleaning of my shop. I can't comment on durability yet due to the short time I've owned it. I will tell you this Iove the detachable blower 180mph stronger than my ECHO leaf blower It's a good buy!

starter ... on/off ... switch is not operating properly
hi ... have the wd1665 model of the 16 gallon wet/dry vac. this unit has been great, but now notice that when i switch the unit ON, sometimes I have to giggle it a little to get it to start. Any ideas on how to correct? Do these switches wear out? thanks.
Switches can go bad and wear out. It could be just a loose connection also? I would first spray some alcohol into the switch itself and around the switch housing because sometimes the contacts of the switch get dirty. Let this dry for a minute or two and then try it and see if it works. If not then If the machine is not under warranty you should be able to take it apart by removing some screws and the unit should separate into two pieces. This should also give you access to the switch. From their you can determine if it's a loose connection or a bad switch? Hope this helps?

I HAVE CHANGED THE FILTER, CHECKED THE HOSE FOR DEBRIS, AND THE HOSE INTAKE PORT. MY VACUUM IS STILL WORKING AT ABOUT %50.
I have only had my unit for about a month and used it very little.
Thank you for contacting RIDGID® Customer Support. There are a number of reasons your vac may have reduced suction power. We recommend that you check the following: 1 – The most common reason for reduced performance is a clogged filter that is full of debris. Please check the condition of your filter – you may need to either clean or replace your filter. 2 - The drain cap could be loose or missing. You should check the connections. 3 – The hose may have holes or could be clogged – you should check the condition of your hose and clean or replace if necessary. 4 - The float (which is the device inside the filter cage beneath the filter) could be stuck in the upward position. Check the float - it should be moving freely. 5 – The drum is not secure to the power head. You should check to insure that the drum is properly secured to the power head. If the above recommendations do not solve your problem, please contact us and we can attempt to troubleshoot the vacuum with you. Also, if its within 90 days, you may return the vac at Home Depot for an exchange. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to call us at 1-800-4-RIDGID (1-800- 474-3443) or you may send your email to [email protected] Regards, RIDGID

can i use my 16 G, blower vac too for blow in fiber insulation?
trying to use the blower feature, but am not sure if this is possible with this model, already bought and extra 8' line, (16' total line), as the area is tight, but improperly insulated. the filter seems as it will deter this and removing the filter i think may clog up the motor. thank you in advance for all responses.
I would advise against what you are trying to do. This blower is not designed to blow things through the device. You could try to build a "fill system" and connect it to the hose itself. I am not sure if it will work, but I would give that a try before blowing insulation through the actual motor unit.

How do I hook an attachment to the blower?
My blower has, what looks like a vent, where the attachment should go. I cant seem to remove the vent part.
Did you get or can you locate your owners manual for your vac? You might even be able to go on the rigid web site and download the owners manual for your device? This should tell you how to hook up an attachment to your blower. You might even be able to find a YouTube video on it? Who knows their are videos on just about anything these days? My blower attachment locks into the blower port. Mine works like this I push the blower attachment into the blower port and then turn it clockwise until it locks into place which is great because you don't have to worry about it falling off or the blower blowing it off like on my older sears model I have. Hope this helps!
