Hi BillyBee, The filter included with the RIDGID WD3050 is 1-layer replacement wet/dry vac filter that is great for everyday dirt. Everyday dirt is best described as sawdust or typical debris found in a basement, garage or vehicle. This is the white filter with part number VF3400. The VF3500 is the blue 3 layer filter that you can use with the WD3050. It is the best recommended replacement filter as it can also filter out fine dust such as drywall or fine powders. You may also be interested in the other cartridge filters that can be used on the 3.0 gal. to 4.5 gal. RIDGID Wet Dry Vacs. This would be the VF3600 which is a green 5-Layer Allergen Pleated Paper Filter, and the VF3700 which is the wet application foam filter. Depending on how you use the vacuum, you now have more filters to choose from. These filters are washable, take note that for the paper filters, using soap may make it wear out faster.
