14 Gallon Wet/Dry Vac

WD1450

This RIDGID® 14 gallon High Performance Wet/Dry Vac is designed to deliver the powerful suction, large capacity, and rugged construction in a more compact design than is offered in our largest cart type vacs. The vacuum’s 14 gallon drum size helps us achieve a more compact overall design but it still provides a big capacity capable of handling large job-site chores. The 6.0 peak HP motor delivers the high performance necessary to handle these chores. Other key features include; a 3-layer fine dust filter captures dry wall dust, accessories are stored on-board, casters provide 360° mobility. Add a top handle with a cord wrap, heavy duty 2-piece drum construction, a large drain and you’ve got a wet/dry vac that achieves the demands of Pro’s on the job site or in the shop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sweeper for a decent price I wanted the biggest vac I could get, but when I looked at the 6.5hp vacs, that were alomst $80 more, I choes this one. So far so good and with the rigid warranty I am pretty happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The design for holding accessories is almost perfect. This is replacing my 15 year old 12 gallon Ridgid vacuum. The more powerful motor is great and the mount for accessories works fine. My only gripe is that they didn't give much thought about where to store the hose when not using the machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Unit Great Rigid quality and performs just as I had hoped it would. Large capacity means less work for me not having to empty it so often.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Replaced a Sears ShopVac that I used for 32 years! This review is being written by a retired Mechanical Engineer with 50 years experience in machine design. I use this vacuum everyday in my wood shop, mostly to pick up sawdust and debris from building cabinets and furniture as a hobby. Occasionally used for wet spills and plumbing emergencies. I replaced a Sears Shop Vac of the same size that I used and repaired myself for over 32 years. It was still running when I stopped using it finally because the metal parts were very rusted and the motor cover got cracked beyond repair possibilities. It was a good machine. RIP Time will tell about the durability of this new device but so far it is performing well overall. I like that it is quiet in use. The body parts are heavy plastic and should hold up. The motor looks to be a standard in the vacuum industry. I like the feel of the attachments. The surface texture, and design of them feels nice in the hand. The bottom surfaces of the attachments are curved slightly to prevent sticking to the floor in use. The long electric cord is also handy. The attachments holder and cord wrap are thoughtfully placed. However, storing the hose could be improved. I don't like having to detach it from the canister after each use. Perhaps a right angle fitting near the canister might be an option here. A few things I have found a bit irritating is that the vac hose where it attaches to the canister has a clip that is supposed to click into place. It seems to be a weak point and I doubt that it will re-mate consistently after extended use. Another design defect is the way that the filter attaches to the vac motor inside the canister. I was not familiar with the force needed to push it down hard enough on its post, which is this semi-soft nipple device. Again, I doubt this will hold up over time. What was wrong with using the old standard wing nut? It was a more passive fastener. Anyway, the problem caused the filter to fall off inside the canister while in use. Debris were sucked up into the motor. Fortunately, I was only picking up some wood shavings at the time or it would have ruined the motor on the first use, but I had to clean the intake carefully and use compressed air to flush the motor. The replacement filters for these vacuums are wicked expensive. Between $17 and $30 at my local Home Depot. Geesh, they could give the vacuum to you and just up the cost of the filters by another dollar. It feels like paying rent! Clue here Mr. Manufacturer. You are creating an aftermarket to compete easily with you by providing filters at half the cost. Hint. I use an air conditioner filter to make a pre-filter to go over the pleated paper. It is one of those that are sold as a replacement for window air conditioners. Cost 99 cents. This will at least extend the life of a filter element. Cut it to fit around the filter and hold it in place with a few large rubber bands. Replace it when it loads up with dust and blow out the cartridge filter with compressed air before attaching. If not for these things, I would have rated this 5 stars. For now, this is the best shop vacuum in the industry at a reasonable price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! The organizer for holding the attachments is great. I wondered about the quieter sound, but no longer which is a marked improvement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I really like being able to lock vacuum hose to canister I'm glad to see Rigid including 4 screws to attach wheels to base since my other older, smaller vacuum the wheels would fall off when lifting over something on the ground. The drain feature is nice since I can roll over to the edge of the yard and empty the tank. Thanks again I'm happy and thats all that matters this household.I just wish it was made in the U.S.A. thanks bill

can i wet vac with paper filter

Asked by: jerryrusty
It is not recommended. Depending on your use you can remove the pleated paper filter or purchase a sponge type filter that will replace the pleated paper filter.

Will the WD1450 accept standard non locking hoses as well?
Asked by: dresnik
I had an extra hose from my last vac and it fit, but I believe I had to use the 3 piece adapter kit.

Is the airflow (CFM) of the vacuums measured at the end of the hose or at the opening on the canister?

Asked by: ShopDoc
The CFM (air flow) is measured by how much air is taken in through a round opening ranging from two inches to completely closed. Of course, there is zero CFM at no opening and maximum CFM at a two-inch opening.
