Features

  • 3⁄8" (10 mm) cable best for 1 1⁄2" (40 mm) to 3" (75 mm) lines.
  • 1 1⁄2" (12 mm) cable best for 3" (50 mm) to 4" (110 mm) lines.
  • Integrated Transport Cart - allows for easy movement to and from the job site. Heavy-duty, large wheels easily navigate over bumps and up stairs.
  • Integrated Telescoping Handle - provides high-handle height during transport.
  • Cable Control System - causes the drum to stop spinning when the blade becomes lodged in a blockage, limits potential for cable to flip-over in the drum and helps to indicate to operator when blockages are encountered.
  • "Solid Core” Cable - uses tough 3⁄8" (10 mm) or 1⁄2" (12 mm) Integral Wound (IW) solid core cable that is rugged and kink resistant.
  • AUTOFEED - offered as an accessory, this patented, automatic cable feed powers cable in and out of the drain. Reverse the direction of the AUTOFEED and the cable feeds back into the drum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT COMPACT MACHINE I alway thought of purchasing a drain cleaner after watching my sewer guys clean my drain. When I urgently needed my root clogged drains cleaned, I called the "pros" TWICE; they never called back or showed up. So I bought the K-400 & ordered the attachments. Hey, it worked great; you don't have to be a journeyman plumber to use it. Read the directions, read 'em again & follow the directions. (Watch a few online videos of drain cleaning). My only complaint, the wheels should be larger. The K-400 should pay for itself in two years! April 13, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by a must for 1/5 - 2 inch pipe Seams like a nice unit that will last. Used only 3 time with good result in all ueses. Does take a bit of work to work the line in and out manually. The auto feed would correct this. But nice unit quite and gets the job done. March 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is as tuff as they come This product is as tuff as they come along with all of the ridged products. I have owned several ridged tools from pipe wrenches to tubing cutters, I have a ridged 300 power vise that is 20 years old and still going strong. The ridged tools my grand father owned I am still using to this day. I know that the k400 will be as durable as the rest of the ridged tools I own some of which have been in service for decades! Rated 5 out of 5 by Saved us-and a poor family living in horrible conditions and getting sick. 100 STARS-We have drain issues at our restaurant and can do it ourselves now. Also, we have rental properties. A family with 3 young children couldn't run water w/o main backing up in basement. They were too embarrassed to say anything. IT WAS HORRIBLE, the kids getting sick from feces, and RIDGID saved them all. March 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pays for itself after only a few uses, well built, easy to use. The K-400 auger is a great tool for any homeowner/professional. I am a homeowner and a major do it yourselfer. First off the auger is a bit expensive(especially if you get the auto feed and longer cable attachments) but this auger will save/make you hundreds after only a few uses. I found this auger to be very well built and easy to use although feeding/retracting the cable manually can be a bit of a job. I have never used an auger like this before and was able to unclog my main sewer line fairly quickly. I have had to use this auger several times so far and each time it gets easier and easier. The auger is easy to clean when finished which is a major plus. This auger is very quiet I don't know why but I expected it to be loud. The cable provided(3/8 in by 75 ft) is very well built and I felt very confident I would not kink it easily.I feel the best thing about this auger though is knowing when I get a clog I can fix the issue myself no waiting for a plumber or paying hundreds that I really do not have(no offense meant to any plumbers). I feel the K-400 auger is a very good investment and would recommend this tool to anyone. March 15, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by easy to use great product and easy to use i recommand to my friends March 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simple and effective I have a 60'long, flat cesspool line. It would get clogged once or twice a year(teenagers don't help) at $175.00 a pop for a service. Buying this was a no-brainer. I wish I had done it sooner March 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Does the job ! I am not a plumber by any means, i'm a DIYer with a few rental properties. For the money I couldn't be happier. The one time I have ever called out an emergency plumber for a blockage at one of my rental properties is when I was out of town and had no other option that ended up costing me $300 for a simple snake out of the main line ! I don't use it everyday, but for the 3 times I have unclogged blockages since owning the k-400, it has already paid itself off. Its great for homeowners, and landlords. Might not meet commercial grade standards, but it has gotten the job done for what I would say is light-medium blockages with ease. I have rented bigger machines in the past with more power, torque, and larger cable, but the k-400 is more practical for my needs. March 2, 2015

Answer:
No, this machine is not rated to clean out Tree Roots. The K750 and K7500 have the capability to do tree roots when using a 3/4" cable though.

Answer:
The K-400 specifically says "not for roots." That said, I worked very slowly and carefully and found/cleared roots out of 4 of my drain pipes. Granted, they were not major roots but the K-400 auger cleared them. You must watch the provided video for operation and safety and take it very SLOWLY.

Answer:
Thanks for the question, chrisl.
If you want to use a 1/2" cable, I'm afraid 75' is the max reach. However, if you can use a 3/8" cable, we do have a 100' option (catalog number 87587).

Answer:
I have used some sections of cable for the K50 machine. But you have to add them at the beginning of the cable. The nice thing here is that you can purchase a couple extra lengths and have them on hand if you need them.

Answer:
To Remove Cable From Drum
1. Pull out excess cable from drum allowing access to
cable bracket.
2. Loosen screws on back of drum that fasten cable
clamps and back plate against back wall of drum.
3. Pull end of old cable from drum and discard.

To Install Replacement Cable
1. To make cable installation easier, completely uncoil
new cable before proceeding. Use caution when removing
the cable from the package. The cable is
under tension and could strike the user. Adding a 30
degree bend about 4 inches from the drum end of
cable will facilitate it entering the drum.
2. Insert about 24 inches of cable through the guide
tube into the drum.
{Cable should coil into the drum in a counterclockwise
direction}
3. Reach inside the drum and maneuver end of cable so
that it is between the cable clamp and back plate. The
end of the cable should extend at least 3" past the
clamp.
4. Retighten the screws to clamp the cable against the
back plate and back wall of the drum.
5. Feed cable into drum.

Answer:
Easy, just don't tangle it. Go to a large area and pull the cable out, then you will run into a clip that retains the cable at the very end. Use a flat head to loosen the screws in the back of the drum and the cable comes out.

Answer:
3/8 100' is what you want. That way you can go as small as a 11/2" sink trap. If you want larger go with the 1/2" cable but you are limited to length. Trust us and go with 3/8 100' and use a larger k60 or so for whatever the k400 can't handle.
