Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 21 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by oscillating motion stopped! thunking noise if your rigid sander stops oscillating the fix may take 10 mins. Remove 4 Phillips screws to remove bottom. Vacuum dust away so that you can keep dust out of next step. Use a 3/8 socket on an extension to remove the plastic housing on bottom of motor. look for any broke gear teeth and that the three long prongs are intact. if everything looks fine. then look to see if the two plates are connected by all the prongs (6-8? didn't count) . just separate the disks and insert the prongs in the sockets. reassemble and mine works fine again. Rated 5 out of 5 by It's like getting two machines in one. I have a small woodshop and needed a good solution for my sanding needs. After some research I decided to go with this sander. All I can say is wow..It's like having a few different machines in one. It only takes a minute to change from a spindle to a belt. The Dust collection works very well hooked up to my Ridgid shop vac. I have used this sander daily for 6 months now and it hasn't let me down. I would recommend it to anyone looking. December 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by So far so good Just received this sander and I am very pleased with this purchase. I was going to purchase a different brand, mostly based on cost, but after reading/viewing web content on this machine I was sold on this one. Why? Basicly it;s two machines in one with the spindle sander and the belt sander. I did not know I needed the latter until I used it. Makes sanding straight edges easy as well as gentle curves. For a spindle sander I was using my drill press, this sander makes that seem like from the stone age. Seems to be a well thought out design with all the accessories located in front. Maybe it could use more power, time will tell. Sanding is not fun nor rocket science, but this machine makes it easier and less of a necessary evil. December 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Unique and invaluable This is a very unique tool in my shop, as it allows me finish highly customized projects quickly and professionally. In fact, there is very little I cannot create between my bandsaw and this oscillating sander. November 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works like a charm The belt sander works great for all my small wood projects and the spindle sander lets me get in the tight hard to reach spots. Been using the sander for over 7 years and still works great November 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great all around tool This has been an outstanding tool. Dust collection works pretty well and changing out heads is a snap. My only wish to make this item better would be a way to better secure the accessories, mine gets moved around and you have to be very careful not to lose anything. November 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gets the job done I have used this sander for many woodworking projects. Easy to change from belt to spindle. has plenty of power for the tough jobs. does not burn the hard woods. November 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by I use my sander on every project it cuts hours of handwork off each project couldn't get along without it. I have had my sanders for a few years now and use them on everything from scroll work to Queen Ann top end furniture pieces. I have two of them one set up with the spindles and the other with the belt attachment. I love them. November 25, 2014

Motor failures

Several reviewers on the Home Depot web site spoke of motor failures ( burn up) with the Oscillating Edge Belt Sander. Is this an ongoing issue? Have the motor problems been corrected? What recourse will I have if I purchase the sander and have a similar issue with the motor? Another stated problem was the sanding belt would not stay in track. Is this a problem with the design of the tracking mechanism? Again, what recourse do I have if I have a similar problem? The reviews were filed since the beginning of 2013.

Answer:
I have used this sander daily for the last 6 months...Zero Problems!!!! Motor is powerful and the belt tracks true(it has an adjustment knob)...I am pretty sure most of the problems folks have with the machine is they ask it to do more than it was intended for...or misuse all together...If I push the end of a 2x4 into the belt and really push it I can get it to stop...but who does that? Seams to me that most of the bad press is coming from folks who lack common sense.

Answer:
I just bought a unit at Home Depot and the motor seized up. Apparently the issue isn't resolved. I love the sander and its ability. I started looking for service centers and the closest one is 53 miles away. I don't want to drive that far.
I was thinking about buying another one but I don't want the same problem to happen. This question was asked in 2013 and there is still an issue with the motors
