Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't last Same as most everyone else, short time, then coming apart, but a step further...Replaced broken backer pad, and 2 weeks later small bolt connecting pad orbital assembly to motor sheared off inside. HD no help on return, have to wait however many weeks for a maybe repair, or buy a new sander. Guess what I'm doing. Bummed, thought upgrading to this brand was going to take things to the next level. Don't purchase if you need a sander more than a few months.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Premature failure - can't get parts The backing pad came apart after ~20 hours of use. There is no way to order the part 305189001. This is the second Ridgid power tool that has failed prematurely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not enough grit availablity Make more heavier grit paper for this machine. 36/ 40/ 50 grit paper would be really helpful, especially given the price of this palm sander.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from this sander could be great if the pad wouldn't wear down so fast I'm on my 3rd or fourth one so far and the backing pad either wears out or completely breaks off after a few uses. I don't know why Rigid won't redesign . The main inner shaft is only attached by 1 tiny screw which can't handle the force and therefore the backer pad always breaks off. I think it's time to switch to Festool after all you get whatcha pay for ! All their power tools are gear driven too

Rated 3 out of 5 by from You will be amazed! Yes, You will be absolutely amazed at just how fast this sander can help you finish a job, just how fast Ridgid will accept your hard earned dollar and just how fast Ridgid won't stand behind their name. I've been a Ridgid brand tools supporter for years now, they have helped me earn my living and support my family. I showed Ridgid my support with every dollar I "Invested" in my tools. This sander has a design defect in my opinion, and it has been giving this sander an unfair handicap because Ridgid won't fix it, but they sure will be happy to take more of your money to sell you a replacement. "Don't bother looking for the part where you purchased the tool.... It's not there." The hook and loop pad fails under normal use almost quicker then you can get through a stack of sanding discs. I've purchased Ridgid tools for years now, and I make my living by depending on them to last. I didn't bother reading the reviews on this sander first because "it's a Ridgid" it'll last.... It feels nice in the hand, it's got great looks and other guys will be in envy when they see it work that wood. It'll be the same old story though, they got your money and you will be left wondering how it happened. At least you get to keep all your stuff this time....... As you can see in the picture, "There was only one brand for me"

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Latch and hook pad wearing off Hi, I purchased this produce a few weeks ago and I have had to replace the latch and hook pad twice. The plastic hooks wear out almost immediately causing the sandpaper to fly off. I did not even wear out one piece of 80 grit sand paper b4 this pad was unusable. HD and lowes do not stock this replacement pad.. . I called customer service today and they were of no help. I was told that this product was not intended for "heavy work load", not sure what that means, i am sanding wood with it. It's hitting the trash can tonight. I dont know if there is a balance problem with this unit that is causing this issue.. I have a cheep orbital air sander and not one of the plastic hooks ever rubbed down or melted off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from One major weak link to otherwise great product. I was hired to help restore a mid-century modern post and beam house designed by a famous architect. Repairing rot on the beams is my main job and required that I purchase a random orbit sander. I am pretty much brand loyal because of my experience with my other Ridgid tools, so I went straight for the Ridgid. I loved working with it right out of the box. Plenty of power, The choice of 1/8 or 1/4 diameter orbits is a great feature for the work I'm doing. I had a little trouble with the "Lock-on-Button" as I was having trouble avoiding the trigger and kept accidentally deactivating the lock. I have figured that out now. My big problem with this product is that after only using it for 10 days, the hook and loop pad has worn out. Based on my experience, comparing info with my co-workers who use different brand and the reviews I've read about this sander, it has a problem with this. What makes the problem worse is that the replacement pad is not available where I purchased the tool, nor have I been able to find it elsewhere. I have ordered 3 of them from an online source but they are special order and I won't likely have them for 2 weeks! I'm dead in the water. I expect better from Ridgid and based on my other experiences with your products I know Ridgid expects more from itself, too. At least I hope they do! Without the problems I've mentioned, I would rate this sander 4 stars, at least. The weak quality of the hook and loop material brings it down to a 3. The fact that the replacement part is not available at Home Depot, or anywhere else that I've been able to find, is inexcusable and since I'm screwed at the job site until my replacements come, the rating now has gone down to 2. Come on Ridgid! Fix this!

Why do the sanding pads not adhere to the Hook and Loop Backing Pad?

The sanding pads I was able to get stopped adhering to the Hook and Loop Backing Pad about half way through sanding the wood on my deck. Help? Also, I could not find 6-hole pads, only 8-hole so the holes on the pads do not line up with the Hook and Loop Backing Pag holes. Is that usual?

Just use spray glue and don't worry about dust extraction. If you have a similar experience to mine, the bearings will fail shortly so I wouldn't spend too much time sourcing the right paper.
