Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 294 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Compact but powerful We recently needs a new wet/dry vac and I have been shopping for a while now. We wanted something not too large but to have the same suction power of the larger vacs. This unit with 5hp is perfect for us. The lifetime warranty and the large selection of optional attachments and the ease of Home Depot are the reasons we purchased this unit. Overall we have been very satisfied with it big suction power in a compact size. Great product! January 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent for it's size could use a couple more attachments. I was surprised with its power. It is a little giant. January 20, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by so far this one is working great. The first one I purchased only worked for about three minutes and shut down. Returned it and got another one. So far it's a good unit. January 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to move around purchase this at the home depot store. They had several ones and the 4 gal. was what I needed. It does the job for little to medium projects around the house. January 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by this product perfect size for inside house My wife loves the Vac. She complain the old unit was to hard to handle around the house. This product is perfect for her. January 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Compact but powerful This is a powerful machine with a compact design. To get the same power you would normally have to buy the full size vacuum which can take up a lot of room in the back of your truck. I still own a full size vacuum for bigger jobs but if you need a lot of power and don't need to suck up a lot of junk then this is the machine for the job. January 11, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Basically, what I needed... I've had the chance to run this 4 gallon wet/dry vac a bit and basically it's pretty good. Seems to have good suction for dry stuff, cleaning up some wood shavings. I will have to see what it's like as a wet vacuum. Three comments- one, I could not find a brush head for the extensions and, two, it's an odd hose size, as someone else has noted. And, three, it doesn't have a separate wet filter, as do the larger (5 gallon+) vacuums have. I think that may be a problem as far as the life expectancy of the filter. We'll see... But I'm happy so far. January 8, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice for small jobs I use this vacuum in my horse barn to keep cobwebs at bay and to vacuum the horses' hair in the winter. It is light weight and easy to carry up and down the stairs to the hayloft. I like the extra long cord which eliminates searching for an extension cord. A brush attachment would have been nice. Answer:
Absolutely! There must be a foam filter on the unit when vacuuming up liquids to prevent debris from getting in to the impeller.

Answer:
Here are some notes from the manual:
Vacuuming Liquids:
1. When picking up small amounts of liquid the filter may be left in place,
2. When picking up large amounts of liquid we recommend that the filter be removed. If the filter is not removed it will become saturated and misting may appear in the exhaust.
Warning: do not remove the filter cage and float. The float prevents liquid from entering the impeller and damaging the motor. The cage prevents fingers from touching the impeller.
3. When the liquid in the drum reaches a predetermined level, the float mechanism will rise automatically to cut off airflow. You will know that the float has risen because vac airflow ceases and the motor noise will become higher in pitch, due to increased motor speed. When this happens, turn off the vac unplug the power cord, and empty the drum.
4. After using the vac to pick up liquids, the filter must be dried to avoid possible mildew and damage to the filter.

Thank you

The filter and the way it mounts on to the vacuum is exactly the same as many other brands. So though I have not done so myself. I am pretty sure there is a foam filter out there under another brand that will fit.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in RIDGID!

It is encourage using a wet rug and wiping the dust accumulated on the vacuum’s power head rather than washing it directly with water as the water might enter to the motor which will be a safety issue.

Answer:
Unless you are using it as a wet vac make sure to use a clean filter that is properly installed, (it's simple), and if need be wipe down the motor housing with a damp, not wet, cloth with the unit unplugged.

Answer:
Yes, I located one at Home Depot; although the one I found that would fit a 1=7/8 inch hose was available only with a 'crevice nozzle' attachment as well. It seems the price for the two attachments was about $14.00 and some change.
