Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 179 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 It vacuums well This vacuum works well and has a great filter. Lots of accessories to buy for it. The blower is a nice bonus but it comes at a cost. The exhaust of this vacuum shoots out the side at a 45 degree angle towards the back. Being that this is also a leaf blower, the exhaust is as powerful as a leaf blower and the last thing you want is a tornado of air blowing horizontally from the vacuum. This causes dust 10' away to be kicked up into the air. Major design flaw to say the least. Fortunately I rigged a 2" drain elbow to attach to the vacuum and now I have the exhaust blowing straight upwards. Much better but it is still a powerful jet-stream of air, I will need to figure away to diffuse the the air.. it would have been nice if Rigid had figured all this out in the first place, then again, their vacuums are from China and all they do is stick their logo on them so what else should you expect? You can buy this same vacuum under the brand "shopVac" at Amazon for a lot more money than I paid. Good luck with it, and best of luck trying to vacuum in your house, it will blow papers off a table far away from where you are vacuuming. February 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect for our needs! We appreciate the compact size, yet powerful suction and blowing. Great buy for the price! February 24, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good. I like the blower option that comes with the vac. I can buy filters for this which works great for drywall dust. Have nt tried the wet option yet. Overall good vac for the price. February 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good value. Just what I needed. I wanted a smaller more portable shop vacuum and the Rigid 4 Gallon Portable fills the need. I have a woodworking shop and have always needed a smaller vac to clean up sawdust and other debris around the shop. I have a large 12 gallon Rigid vac that does very nicely for larger jobs or even as a dust collector for smaller tools, but I needed something smaller to move around the shop, The 4 gal wet/dry vac works great. I actually saw a tradesman recently working in my home use this vac and thought that is exactly what I needed and so I decided to get one. It has great vacuum power and the hose is just the right length. The canister is easy to open and fits tight. Rigid figured out how to make the canister opening latches better than the ones on my 12 gal which are very hard to open. The hole in the handle to place the loose end of the hose is a cleaver way to deal with the hose. I saw in some reviews that the 1 7/8" hose is an odd size but I do not find that a problem at all for the purpose of this vac. Overall this is a great addition to my shop and it will also get a lot of use around my house and garage. February 22, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by I like the product for its size and easy use The use and storage abilities make the product very good. I have only had it a short time but have used it frequently. February 20, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Easy setup and attachment swap Good value and rectangular shape make it very stable. Also the dual use option of leaf blower may come in handy February 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by The suction is good and the vacuum is easy to manuever around. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a vacuum cleaner that is easy to pull around and does not take up a lot of room for storage. It gets the job done and performs well. February 16, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by 4 Gal Shop Vac Only have had this a week, but so far so good...You should probably wait 6 months before requesting a review... February 14, 2015

Answer:
Here are some notes from the manual:
Vacuuming Liquids:
1. When picking up small amounts of liquid the filter may be left in place,
2. When picking up large amounts of liquid we recommend that the filter be removed. If the filter is not removed it will become saturated and misting may appear in the exhaust.
Warning: do not remove the filter cage and float. The float prevents liquid from entering the impeller and damaging the motor. The cage prevents fingers from touching the impeller.
3. When the liquid in the drum reaches a predetermined level, the float mechanism will rise automatically to cut off airflow. You will know that the float has risen because vac airflow ceases and the motor noise will become higher in pitch, due to increased motor speed. When this happens, turn off the vac unplug the power cord, and empty the drum.
4. After using the vac to pick up liquids, the filter must be dried to avoid possible mildew and damage to the filter.

Thank you

Answer:
Absolutely! There must be a foam filter on the unit when vacuuming up liquids to prevent debris from getting in to the impeller.

Thank you for your interest in RIDGID!

It is encourage using a wet rug and wiping the dust accumulated on the vacuum’s power head rather than washing it directly with water as the water might enter to the motor which will be a safety issue.

Answer:
Unless you are using it as a wet vac make sure to use a clean filter that is properly installed, (it's simple), and if need be wipe down the motor housing with a damp, not wet, cloth with the unit unplugged.

Pressure

If a airwatts are 0.117354 * (CFM) * (inches water), then do I calculate correctly that this model no. WD4070 will lift water 12.9 inches high?

167 watts * (1/0.117354) * (1/110 CFM) = 12.9 inches water

I feel like that number is way too low - I'm sure your product lifts water more than 1 foot high! I may have the calculation wrong or the pressure may be specified another way. What do the units of "G/h" mean?

Thank you for the help.

Answer:
Jacob,
I agree with your calculations, the thing to remember is this is a fan, not a positive displacement pump or vacuum, meaning there is a lot of slip. When you essentially stall the fan, by trying to pull up a column or water, it will start to spin and not pull any more. Now if you allow air to remain flowing in the hose it will draw water or other material along with the moving air in the hose to a much higher height.
