The Model 1224 Pipe Threader threads a wide range of pipe including black, galvanized and plastic-coated pipe, together with stainless steel, IMC and heavy-wall conduit, as well as rod up to 30 Rockwell C.

The machine threads pipe from 1/4 inch to 4 inches (6 mm to 100 mm) and bolts from 1/4 inch to 2 inches (6 mm to 50 mm). With appropriate die heads, it can produce left-hand threads as well.
It uses a single-phase induction motor rated at approximately 1.5 HP with two operating speeds: 36 RPM for 1/4–2 inch (6–50 mm) pipe and cutting/reaming, and 12 RPM for 2-1/2–4 inch (65–100 mm) pipe or higher torque applications.
The integral gerotor-type oil pump provides through-head, constant-flow lubrication and automatically reverses flow. The reservoir holds about 5 quarts (4.7 liters) of RIDGID thread cutting oil.
The front chuck is a hammer-type with replaceable rocker-action jaw inserts, and the rear centering device uses a cam action to support and align the workpiece.
The machine weighs approximately 509 pounds (231 kilograms).
